Porcelain reimagines the delicacy of fine china through a bold sculptural form that defies fragility. The piece folds and ripples like softened ceramic caught in mid-motion, its surface wrapped in deep cobalt florals reminiscent of traditional blue-and-white porcelain. The tension between the intricate patterning and the dramatic, crumpled structure creates a dialogue between elegance and disruption, tradition and reinvention.
The work builds on Loretta Oberheim’s ongoing exploration of surface, texture, and emotional memory. The fluid, crushed form suggests an object that has been handled, stressed, or transformed—yet it retains an undeniable beauty. The floral motifs appear both ornamental and resilient, clinging to the sculpture’s shifting planes as if refusing to disappear.
Crafted through mixed-media techniques that blend painterly precision with sculptural force, Porcelain blurs boundaries between painting, textile sensibility, and dimensional form. Its glossy finish and cobalt detailing echo heirloom ceramics, while the dramatic folds offer a contemporary reinterpretation that feels alive, expressive, and materially rich.
This piece invites viewers to consider the stories carried within objects: what is preserved, what is broken, and what can be reshaped into something entirely new.
Shipping: Due to its sculptural depth (7") and dimensional form, shipping is quoted individually. Local pickup and regional delivery options are available.
