What Grows When Pressed

Sculptural Heavy-Bodied Acrylic on Pine Wood
13" x 12.5" x 14"

Description
What Grows When Pressed is a sculptural bouquet born from pressure—both the physical act of piping paint and the emotional weight that often shapes creativity. Built atop a hand-finished pine-wood form, this piece erupts with layered sunflowers, morning glories, and abstract blossoms, each one individually formed using heavy-bodied acrylics sculpted through piping techniques.

Every petal curls with intention. Every fold catches the light. As you move around the piece, the colors shift from vibrant yellows to deep blues to soft coral pinks, revealing new blooms with each angle. Dense, lush, and unapologetically tactile, the work invites viewers to slow down and experience the garden from all sides.

Meaning & Concept
This piece reflects the quiet truth that growth rarely appears graceful while it's happening. Under pressure, forms twist, stretch, and bloom in unexpected ways—and what emerges is often more intricate, vibrant, and resilient than what came before. What Grows When Pressed honors that transformation, celebrating the beauty that rises when you push through.

Materials & Technique
Created with Gaffrey-style heavy acrylics, palette-knife shaping, and cake-piping methods, the sculpture embraces texture and dimensionality. Layers of color build a living surface, merging fine-art sensibilities with hands-on sculptural play.

Display Notes
Designed to be viewed from all sides, this work is best displayed on a pedestal or shelf with lighting that grazes the textures. It brings a burst of floral energy to any space, acting as both a statement piece and a conversation starter.
