In The Water Held the Sky, sailboats rest quietly in Northport Harbor as vibrant colors stretch across the horizon and dance upon the water below. Reflections of blue, violet, gold, and coral blur the boundary between sky and sea, transforming the harbor into a tapestry of light and color.

Created with watercolor and ink on Fabriano cold press paper, this painting embraces the fluid nature of the medium. Expressive washes and loose linework capture the movement of the water and the ever-changing atmosphere above it, while the anchored boats provide a sense of calm and stillness within the scene.

I was drawn to the way the harbor seemed to hold the colors of the sky, reflecting them back with a beauty all its own. In that moment, the water became more than a surface—it became part of the landscape's conversation, carrying light, color, and memory across the harbor.

Inspired by the quiet beauty of Long Island's North Shore, The Water Held the Sky celebrates those fleeting moments when nature transforms an ordinary view into something unforgettable.
