At the easternmost point of Long Island, the Montauk Lighthouse has stood watch over the Atlantic Ocean for more than two centuries. Perched atop the rugged bluffs overlooking the sea, it remains one of the region's most recognizable landmarks and a symbol of the enduring connection between land, water, and history.
In Montauk, Our End, I was drawn to the quiet beauty of the landscape itself—the weathered shoreline, the rocky coastline, and the lighthouse rising above it all. Created with watercolor and ink on Fabriano cold press paper, the painting uses soft washes of blue, earth tones, and subtle violet hues to capture the atmosphere of a place where the land gives way to open ocean.
The title reflects the unique geography of Montauk, often referred to as "The End" by those who know and love Long Island. While it marks the end of the road, it also represents a beginning—a place of arrival, reflection, adventure, and countless memories made along the coast.
Through loose linework and expressive watercolor, this piece celebrates the timeless character of Montauk and the enduring presence of the lighthouse that has guided generations along its shores.
